Italian Defense Authority Grants Piaggio Aerospace Military Design Approval

Piaggio Aerospace has obtained official approval from the Italian defense aviation authority, the Directorate of Aeronautical Armaments and Airworthiness (DAAA), to carry out military aircraft design activities. The approval, known as Military Design Organization Approval (MDOA) certificate IT.21J.007, is granted under the AER(EP).P-21 regulatory framework, which follows European military aviation standards.

The certification formally recognizes Piaggio Aerospace as an approved organization capable of designing, developing, and certifying aircraft modifications within the military aviation system. In practical terms, it confirms that the company meets the required technical and compliance standards to act as a trusted design authority for military aircraft.

This military approval mirrors the Design Organization Approval (DOA) that Piaggio Aerospace already holds from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) for civil aviation. With the addition of the MDOA, the Company's design authority is effectively extended from the civilian sector into the military domain.

As part of the privileges granted by the MDOA certification, Piaggio Aerospace is now able to independently approve certain minor modifications and repairs for the P.180 aircraft family. The company is also authorized to establish and certify the flight conditions required for issuing a "Permit to Fly", which allows aircraft to operate safely after modifications or maintenance work when needed.

The MDOA certification strengthens Piaggio Aerospace's role within Italy's defense aviation ecosystem, reinforcing its responsibility in supporting the continued safety, airworthiness, and operational readiness of the P.180 fleet.
